Story and Photos by - Roger HimkaIt was a day of forecast wind and rain. Summerlin had rain. Anthem had rain. Our picnic had lots of wind, chilly temperatures, but only a few light sprinkles. Mother Nature must be a train lover.
The Garden Railroad Society joined us for a picnic day at Opportunity Village. It was their chance to get to run the train. We had the "200" - the "Spirit of Henderson" operating for the day, with lots of riders as well as volunteer engineers. Amazingly, there were even enough volunteer conductors.
Jerry Magnuson brought all of the main food, the cook grill, baked beans, coffee, and then proceeded to cook hamburgers and hot dogs for everyone! A great one-man show. And, of course, everyone brought even more food for the main course and for dessert. What a pile of food!
A great time was had by all - kids and adults alike. Be sure to put it on your calendar next year.
