Pastor

Rev. Jim Robinson
A native of Ohio, Jim is the son of a retired United Methodist Pastor. Jim served in the U. S. Air Force for four years and graduated from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. He managed a Research and Development Laboratory at Abbott Laboratories, in Columbus for eighteen years.

Jim responded to God’s call to enter the ministry by taking early retirement from Abbott Laboratories. He then began his ministry at Willowbrook United Methodist Church in Sun City, Arizona. He served part time at Willowbrook while commuting to the Claremont School of Theology in California to complete his seminary studies. Jim graduated from Claremont with a Master of Divinity degree in May 2001. He was appointed to Willowbrook as a full
time Associate Pastor in July 2001 where he served until July 2002. At that time, Jim was appointed as Pastor of Mesquite United Methodist Church in Mesquite, Nevada. Jim began his next appointment at First Henderson United Methodist Church in Henderson, Nevada on July 1, 2009.

Jim has been married to Marilyn for 33 years and they have two adult sons that live in Ohio. They also have two adorable Boston Terriers. Marilyn has degrees in Finance and Information Technology and is an adjunct faculty instructor at CSN. Marilyn enjoys gardening, reading and computers. Jim enjoys reading and is an experienced runner. He has completed the Boston and New York
City Marathons.

Judy Warner
Judy has worked in the Accounting Field for many years. Her varied experiences in a wide range of financal areas is what makes her a valuable asset to this congregation. For the church, she is responsible for actual check writing, book balancing and all those other Standard Accounting Procedures we all hear about. Her expertise is what keeps this congregation financially out of major trouble on the day to day as well as projection areas of financial outlay. The Finance committee relies on her knowledge to provide sound financial forcasting and solid fiscal managment.

Music Coordinator
As the Church Music Coordinator, Vickie manages the music requirements for the Church with the various musical groups of the church.

She is the church Organist, pianist, keyboardist. One of Vickie's passions is the Annual Mary Powell Recital/Talent Show, which she has organized and directed for many years, successfully drawing out the talent of the congregation and neighboring Thespians and musicians.

Her extensive knowledge of music adds immeasurably to the success of the many music groups and choirs of this congregation. Vickie's patience with "tempermental musicians" is a constant blessing for us all.

Dan Barch
The Church Custodian is responsible to the cleaning of the church buildings. This includes the Sanctuary, Church offices, and all the classrooms. Dan Barch is also very instrumental in setting up for events, weddings, UMW meetings, and much much more. His involement with the church as a member as well as an employee is exceptional. We are doubly blessed to have him and his wife Grace, with us.
Child Care
The Director of the Child Care Unit is responsible for seeing that our Nursery is properly staffed during our Worship Services and other events with qualified, caring personel approved by the Staff Parish Committee. The Director is also responsible for ensuring that the Church Nursery is a safe and clean environment for the babies and toddlers that we care for during those events.

Debbie's passion is the care of our little ones. We are excited to have her on our staff.

Lay Leader

Sue Thomas
The Lay Leader has the responsibility to be the eyes and ears of the congregations needs and concerns. She is an important member of the church "TEAM" in concert with the Pastor. She is also responsible for leading congregational development in guiding opportunities to minister to others within our church, District and Conference.

In addition to her Lay Leader duties and responsibilities, Sue has been instrumental in developing and expanding the "Hats and Hands" ministry of the District.

As a Certified Lay Speaker AND a Charter member of this congregation, Sue has served this congregation in many offices and elected positions, for over 25 years.

Lay Member Delegates of Annual Conference
The Lay Member Delegates of the Annual Conference, along with the Pastor, shall serve as an interpreter of the actions of the annual conference session. These persons shall report to the local church council on actions of the annual conference as soon as possible, but not later than three (3) months after the close of the conference. They are members of the Finance Committee, and Staff Parish Committee, by position.

Both Paul and Robert are Certified Lay Speakers and have active teaching ministries, District Lay Speaking Instructors Team positions, plus other servant leadership ministries. Paul is the North District Director of Lay Speaking Ministries, responsible for the Districts Lay Speaker training events and support.

Administrative Council

Betty Wiley
Betty Wiley is the Chairman of the Administrative Church Council. As such, she leads the Council at all monthly meetings to guide the council through the important church business. All Committee Chairs are members of the Council as well as the Lay Leader, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Membership Secretary, Lay Delegate to Annual Conference and several Members at Large...all voting members of the council. This council is where all the important decisions are authorized to be acted upon.
Finance Committee
The Finance Committee is responsible for overseeing the financal health of the church. They manage the annual church budget and ensure that the operating expenses are kept in check. On this committee are the Church Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Administrative Council Chairman, Lay Leader, Lay Member Delegates to Annual Conference, and five other dedicated members.

Robert is a Certified Lay Speaker, is a member of the District Lay Speaking Instructors Team, and is also one of the two Lay Member Delegates to Annual Conference.

Staff-Parish Committee

Curt Smith
The Staff-Parish Committee shall assist the pastor and staff in assessing their gifts and setting priorities for leadership and service to the congregation. It is the responsibility of the comittee to communicate with the committee on Lay Leadership and /or Administrative Council when there is a need for new or other leaders, or for presently employed staff members to perform in new areas of responsibility or adjustments. This committee is responsible for establishing work rules, job discriptions and employee handbooks. It is their responsibility to ensure that the employees have a safe work environment. They regularly evaluate the employees to ensure they are being trained, and properly supplied with the correct "tools" to do their respective tasks.
Worship Committee
Worship Committee is responsible for the various worship services at First Henderson. There are many people involved in any given service. Greeter/Ushers, Acolytes, music, liturgists, audio/video, drama, Communion stewards and dance. With the Pastor, this committee plans each Sunday service and all special services provided for the congregation and then impliments all their functions into a seamless service.

Evangelism Ministry

Peter Chengman
The Evangelism Ministry works with the church council and the pastor to make evangelism an ongoing priority ministry to bring people to Jesus Christ. The committee impliments programs and activities to share with people of the community, the Good News of Jesus Christ, identifying and keeping a current prospective file of new persons moving into the neighborhood, etc. with the purpose of mailings and other activities to invite them to worship and fellowship.

Pete is a Certified Lay Speaker.

Education Committee
Christian Education is very important at First Henderson UMC. We provide weekly Sunday School Classes from Nursery age through two Adult Classes. Our education department continually strives to present a high quality Sunday School curriculum which is fun and interesting to children and meaningful to Adults. Our Annual Vacation Bible School continues to be a bright light for the neighborhood children every June/July time. We give the children opportunities to experience the birth of Jesus Christ through a fine Christmas Pagent production each year.

Linda is a Certified Lay Speaker, Alpha Program Director, Choir Member and Sunday School Teacher at the High School Level, and is a member of the North District Lay Speaking Instructor Team.

Prayer Ministry
The Prayer Ministry is a vital part of the church. There are training opportunities such as weekend seminars, retreats and full week conferences scheduled. This ministry is enpowering the laity of the congregation to build and strengthen its expansion of spiritual fulfillment, discerment and effectiveness.
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee is a very active committee. They have recently expanded a long awaited and much thought out program. To care for present members they have begun the "Shepherd" Program made up of about 20 shepherds to take care of their assigned "flock" by sending them cards, letters, telephone calls...all designed to show and enforce the fact that every one of God's children is loved and is important to themselves and their church. This committee sponsors membership pot luck luncheons on a regular basis, and is overseeing the morning "Fellowship Time" where a cup of coffee and a cookie are shared with each other.
Included in this committee is the Prayer Chain, card/letter ministry, Photo Directory, Telephone ministry, Steward of the Month sub-committee and FHUMC Historian

Family Promise Director

Director of Good Samaritan Project
Mission Outreach is responsible for several very important programs. Incuded in this committee is our Transportation Ministry utilizing our Church Van to pick up and return home folks needing a ride to worship on Sundays. Our own "Home Improvement" Ministry called the Good Samaritan Project. And our involvement with the Family Promise, where we provide shelter for qualified families (through the FP program) for a week stay, several times a year. We provide a room for each of about three families and a warm meal at night and a bag lunch for the next day. This is a wonderful program that the church has been blessed by providing for several years.
Weekend Emergency Assistance Program is an important community program providing food and other assistance during weekends when normal channels of help are not available.

Communication Ministry
Communications is the "PR" department of the congregation. They are responsible for placing ads in the local newspapers for our church events, community activities, ministries, worship events, etc.
The committee is made up of individuals with particular skills such as audio/visual, graphic arts, web site, community involvement skills, etc.

Chairman, Paul Bosman is a Certified Lay Speaker and is the North District Director of Lay Speaking Ministries.

Rob Stevenson Reid Stevenson
The United Methodist Youth Group (UMY) is a growing and vibrant ministry here at First Henderson! They just returned from a Disneyland trip over the Christmas School break. The Youth Director Rob Stevenson keeps everything running along as it should, with the help his wife, Reid, and Pastor Wayne.
Web Master
Web site manager is a recent addition to our Communications Ministry. The Web Master is responsible to keeping the Web Site up to date and usable as an interface with the community and beyond.

Jim is a Certified Lay Speaker, is our church videographer/movie editor for our events. Jim is also on the Photo Directory Sub Committee, and serves on the Usher/Greeter team along with his wife Lorrie.
