Formed in 1995 the St. Andrew’s Society continues to flourish with a membership of over 100 families. They meet on the second Thursday of each month in the Fellowship Hall of First Christian Church on the corner of Rancho and Mesquite, at 6:30 p.m.Programs and activities are held during the year. For the past several years the Society, along with its co-sponsor the Las Vegas/Clark County Library District, have invited the public to “Something Scottish”, a one day event for everyone held at the Rainbow Library. Participants are treated to the sights and sounds of Scotland, including a taste of Haggis for the brave of heart. Scottish wares are for sale and information on all the various groups in the Las Vegas area is available. A “Wee Bairns Corner” for the children is a big hit.
Scottish Heritage Month is celebrated annually in Nevada from January 16 to February 15.
In February a “Burns Night Dinner” is held where we celebrate the
birth of famed poet Robert Burns.
The Society provides Academic Scholarships and Cultural Grants to deserving members.
Our “Scotland in a Suitcase” program is available year round for schools, church groups, community centers and others who are interested in learning a bit about the history of Scotland. Programs vary in length depending on the age of the audience.
Those interested in joining this wonderful organization are invited for membership. Call (702) 223-8040 for further information.
