.What is the "Scotland in a Suitcase" ?
In 1995, Jerry Lester, Ed St. John and Yorel Barlow were asked by the Nevada Arts Council to
participate in a Heritage Festival to be held at Lorenzi Park for the School Children and Adults. They were going to bus the children from some of the schools for two hour periods and we would talk to them about Scotland. This was on Friday and then Saturday, adults would come and participate the same way.
In 1996, they added food to the program and we sold trifle and shortbread.
In 1997 and 1998 it was moved to the Rainbow Library and expanded from two days to three.
In 1999, it was moved to the Government Center and the kid’s event cut back to one day.
We were put in contact with many teachers in the school district and some would ask for a more personal demonstration in the classrooms. The name Scotland in a Suitcase came from Heather Palmer during a discussion about the suitcase.
So Scotland in a Suitcase has been involved with individual classroom programs, as well as preschool, recreational centers, and full assemblies for the Las Vegas area.
Our program combines History, Culture, and Music for a well rounded program, including but not limited to Dancers, Bagpipes, Story Tellers, Singers and Reenactment groups.
We are formed from a base of volunteers that give their Time, Money and their Love of Scotland for the betterment of children and adults everywhere.
Feel free to contact us to discuss your particular interests and needs.
