The results are in... thanks to a great effort from everyone in the El Dorado District. We were able to collect over 55 tons of food for the Salvation Army and other food banks. The council total was 142 tons, which was 14% more than last year. Hats off to Joel Ritchie for coordinating the effort again this year and to everyone in El Dorado who helped make this such a huge success. | |

Group Sizes Limited at Zion |
A reminder has been received from the National Park Service that requests our support of regulations regarding group-size limitations in Zion National Park. These regulations have been in effect for several years and read as follows:"Group size in the backcountry of Zion National Park shall not exceed 12 people sharing the same affiliations (school, church, club, scout group, family, friends, etc., or combinations thereof) in the same drainage or same trail on the same day. This applies to people traveling or camping together, and it applies to day use as well as overnight use. Groups larger than 12, sharing the same affiliations, may divide into smaller than 12, provided they do not occupy the same drainage or the same route on the same day. Larger groups have been shown to create unacceptable resource impacts as well as noise impacts that adversely affect the experience of other visitors when traveling through the backcountry of Zion National Park. It has been demonstrated that large groups traveling and/or camping in the same drainage or on the same route routinely divide into smaller groups only to reassemble at some point along the trail. Violations of the group size restrictions are subject to misdemeanor fines up to $5000 or 6 months in jail or both." If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact Cindy J. Purcell, Backcountry District Ranger, at (433) 772-1070. |
