Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Theta Theta Omega Chapter
Welcome to the Spirit of Alpha Kappa Alpha
Our History
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority was founded on January 15, 1908 on the campus of Howard University in Minor Hall. Led by Ethel Hedgeman Lyle, sixteen women came together with the common purpose to "cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship, to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women, to maintain a progressive interest in college life, and TO BE OF SERVICE TO ALL MANKIND."

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority became America's first Greek-letter organization established by Black college women. There are over 170,000 women in the United States, the Caribbean, Europe, and Africa that belong to this wonderful sisterhood.

Theta Theta Omega's Early Beginnings

In 1962, the idea of starting a local chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was born. At that time, there were six known members residing in Las Vegas. They were Florence (Pat) White, Lois Bolden, Lorrayne Hall, Margaret Crawford, Jacqueline (Jackie) Hoggard, and Barbara Kirkland. Twelve members were needed to start a local chapter. The search began to find more members. Notices were posted at Nellis Air Force Base and inquiries were made within the Clark County School District. Betty Forshee, Dorothy (Dottie) Von-Phul, Jean Penn, Marilyn Brooks. Harriet Robinson and Anna Beth Carter were the additional members needed to begin the process. Theta Theta Omega was chartered on May 23, 1965. The chapter continues to make a difference and continues the work our revered Founders so nobly begun in 1908.
