On September 7, 1948 Saint Joseph School opened its doors under the direction of the Dominican Sisters of Adrian, Michigan. 247 students enrolled in grades one through six. Grades seven and eight were completed in 1949 and 1950. The school served grades one through eight until 2004 when Kindergarten was added.
The school was centrally located on 13th and Bridger Streets between St. Joan of Arc Church, St Bridget’s Church and St. Anne’s Church to serve all three parishes. Bishop Thomas Gorman set the precedent that the presiding pastor of St. Joan of Arc Parish would be the administrator for the school.

Saint Joseph’s School was one of the most historical buildings in Southern Nevada. The Spanish mission style brick building with a peaceful courtyard included, eight classrooms, a school office and storerooms. The front part of the building consisted of several small rooms which were later converted to form a small kitchen and a social hall.
As the school continued to grow, Collins Hall was added in 1973 to hold a variety of school functions. A kitchen was built to allow a lunch program. Collins Hall has been used for various school and church activities.
In 2004 a work room was converted into a Kindergarten classroom. That same year the playground equipment was upgraded and a large sunshade with a rubber mat were added.
