Liturgical Bits & Bytes
VOICE OF THE ASSEMBLY
The primary instrument for the liturgy is not the
organ or the piano or the guitar but the voice of the
assembly. In fact, the singing assembly is the most
beautiful sound that the liturgy can make. Usually
it is not a polished sound, and can even be an outof-
tune sound. But when it is authentic and resounding,
it is the only measure of whether our
music is prayer or not. Nothing ever quite matches
the full, alive sound of the whole congregation
joining together in the praise of God. The word
that best describes that event is “Alleluia,: Alleluia
is a Hebrew word that translates “God’s people
praise God.” This special song of praise is used at
many different times an in many different ways,
but it is especially at the time immediately before
that proclamation of the Gospel that it becomes an
acclamation, a kind of shout for joy-always joyful,
always sung.
THANKSGIVING & CHRISTMAS DINNERS
Have you heard of someone in our parish who has lost
his/her job? Christ the King Catholic Community would
like to help these families with food now and during the
holidays. Please call Jane with names and telephone numbers
of those you think may be in need of this service.
(702) 871-1904.
Leaders of Prayer Needed!
Do you feel that you could lead prayer services
at CTK? We need volunteers who
would like to preside at prayer services and
funeral vigil services. Training will be provided.
If interested, please call Mary Jane at
871-1904.
Funeral Ministry
The Funeral Ministry at CTK is one of the
most rewarding ones that we have here. A
funeral coordinator helps the bereaved family
as they make the plans for the funeral services.
The coordinator offers comfort , guidance
and peace of mind. If you feel you
might be called to this special ministry of funeral
coordinator please call Mary Jane, 871-
1904.

If you want to donate fresh meat or frozen foods to
the cupboard, you will have to bring it to the
office during business hours on the week days.
Some meat and frozen food has been donated
during our Sunday services, but the food taken
from the altar is not sorted until Monday morning.

Al-Anon for PARENTS
All family members are troubled when a loved one is
addicted to alcohol or drugs. Parents are particularly
prone to feelings of guilt, fear and helplessness when
it is their child (no matter what age) who suffers from
this disease of addiction. "A Path for Parents" is a 12
step Al-Anon program that can help.
Manna Cupboard Guidelines
Thank you to all of you who continue to keep our shelves stocked
full of food during these difficult times for so many. Some of the
things we regularly run short of are tuna, peanut butter and jelly,
cereal, Vienna sausage, and Ramen. These foods are not always
available at Three Square Food Bank, where, we as members can
get pasta, vegetables, fruits, spaghetti sauce, chili, soup, and stew
at .09 cents a pound. Though all foods donated are helpful,
emphasizing these ones we can’t get from the food bank is most
helpful. Please be sure to check the expiration dates on food you
donate at church. Sometimes, we receive foods whose date has
already expired. We simply have no choice but to throw away
these foods.
